The Magic Beans debuts in BV

Salida’s First Last Waltz is the musical talk of the town this week (see page 10), but the holiday season brings an abundance of musical cheer to the entire Ark Valley in the coming days, including Pint and a Half, The Drunken Hearts, Hairitage, The Magic Beans, Ben Miller Band and Elder Grown.

Award-winning alt-country duo Pint and a Half and classic rockers Hairitage are hometown favorites whose members will also contribute their talents to The Last Waltz collaboration. Americana band The Drunken Hearts will return to Salida for a free show following the Parade of Lights, and Ben Miller Band will debut its Ozark Stomp sound in Salida Dec. 1.

Speaking of debuts, The Magic Beans will make its first-ever appearance in BV Saturday, Nov. 25, with an 8:30 p.m. show at The Lariat.

Scott Hachey, Magic Beans guitarist and vocalist, has been in the studio working on the band’s upcoming album but made time to talk music us recently. He said the band draws from so many musical influences that “it’d be hard to make a list. We don’t shy away from anything. … We play music, and we’re open to all different kinds of things.” He said to look for the new album, Casino Cabaret, this spring.

The Magic Beans also have their own music festival called Beanstalk. Now in its sixth year, the festival draws top talent from around Colorado to Rancho Del Rio on the Colorado River.

At 8:30 p.m. Dec. 2, The Lariat will host Elder Grown, a five-piece band from Durango, for another Saturday night show in BV. Rooted in family and community, Elder Grown combines funk, pop, rock, hip hop, jazz and reggae to create danceable music with plenty of jams to highlight the band’s live shows. Combine Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, Rage Against the Machine and Sublime and you’ll begin to get an idea of the music in store for this show.
