Autonomous vocalist, guitarist and keyboard player Shae Bischoff said the audience should expect to “dance the night away” at their Hubbub Brewing show on Saturday evening. The Colorado Springs band will perform in part two of Hubbub brewery’s reggae series on March 11 from 8-10 p.m.
Bischoff said they selected the name Autonomous after inspiration from the producers of the movie Wrist Cutters. “We saw the production company’s name in the opening credits and thought it spoke to our musical genre. We aren’t Rastas, so we don’t try to promote that. Instead we take influence from the music they put together,
creating our own genre combining hip-hop, post-rock and jazz with reggae.”
All band members are Colorado natives except drummer Chris Simpson who moved to the Springs from Austin, Texas, in 2016. In addition to Simpson and Bischoff, Autonomous is made up of Joey Stanza on bass, Dan Wiley on trombone and vocals, and Logan LaValley on guitar, keyboard and vocals.
The band has evolved musically from trying to find their sound in the beginning to perfecting their sound today. Eventually Autonomous members hope to play in New Zealand, one of several spots on the globe where Polynesian-style reggae has its roots, Bischoff said.
Autonomous has one self-titled album available for download on Bandcamp or ReverbNation. Their second album is fully recorded, and band members are adding the final touches. It will be available online in the coming months. Bischoff described the new album as incorporating even more post-rock, while still including reggae, jazz and hip-hop in the mix.
Over the years, well-known bands Sublime, The Expendables and Slightly Stoopid have influenced the music of Autonomous. During the past five years, Bischoff said Autonomous has played with almost every band they’ve wanted to, but they would still like to link up with Rebelution down the road. In their free time, band members lean toward extreme-style sports, including street biking, skateboarding and snowboarding.
This will be Autonomous’ first Salida performance. For more information about the show visit hubbubbrewing.com.
