Monarch Ski Patrol hosts 32nd annual party.
This weekend, members of the Monarch Ski Patrol Team will host the 32nd Annual Ski Patrol Party Saturday, March 4, at Victoria Tavern beginning at 8 p.m. The Support Group ‒ a jam band featuring members of Dopapod, The Magic Beans, Yamn, Fox Street and Other Worlds ‒ will provide musical entertainment for the night.
The ski patrol team worked with Steve Finch of Finch Presents to select the band. Funds raised at the event from ticket sales ($10 each), a silent auction and the traditional “crowd favorite” Wheel of Fortune game will be allocated for the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, Monarch Ski Patrol Rescue Dogs and Friends of Monarch.
Scott Pressly, Friends board member and vice president of mountain operations at Monarch, said the group is a nonprofit organization that raises funds for patrol education, including advanced medical certifications, avalanche training, rescue dog training and local educational efforts for the community.
Although the ski patrol team is responsible for organizing the party, Pressly said Monarch Mountain supports the event with donations. Prizes available via raffle this year include several pairs of skis donated by Salida Mountain Sports, Mountain Haus and Mount Shavano Ski and Snowboard Shop, a Never Summer snowboard, a 2017-18 Monarch Mountain season pass, two seats on a snowcat ski tour and a townie cruiser bicycle donated by Absolute Bikes.
Pressly described the event as the “best party of the winter” and encouraged everyone to come out and celebrate with the ski patrol team.
