Businesses, schools, nonprofits invited to participate in Buena Vista Christmas Opening

The Buena Vista Christmas Opening is a wonderful holiday tradition that unites small businesses and residents who want to share in the holiday spirit and celebrate the true essence of community.

The Christmas Opening provides a chance for residents to shop local and see the variety of products, services and fare available in Buena Vista. It’s also a family affair, giving kids the opportunity to see Santa and participate in special events and parades for free. Families and people of all ages enjoy joining in the holiday festivities, entertainment and special events.

The Christmas Opening also celebrates the merging of all Buena Vista town centers: South Main Street, East Main Street, West Main Street and the Hwy. 24 corridor. Free events include a chocolate walk, hayride shuttle, free movie, chili cook-off, equine parade, visits with Santa and parade of lights. There is room for many more events and the opportunity to participate with tree sponsorship, activities, parade entries, or product and service offerings.

Organizers invite all local businesses, schools, churches, nonprofit groups and neighborhoods to participate by creating their OWN event, celebration or unique offerings in this community celebration.  All events submitted by the Nov. 10 deadline will be included in advertising messaging, including local newspapers and magazines, KOAA television in Colorado Springs, website, Facebook, Instagram, the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center mailing list, Evensi and Chaffee County Visitors Bureau. Also, 3,000 flyers will be printed with the holiday schedule of all events.

Please submit your ideas and share your inspiration to make this the best Christmas opening yet. Contact the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center with questions, ideas or to sign up by Nov. 10. The town of BV may be consulted if temporary closure of East Main Street is needed.

The Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce coordinates the holiday event, yet it is not a Chamber fundraiser.  Instead it is meant to be a community opportunity. For more information, contact the chamber at 719-395-6612, or email
