If you’ve ever wanted to see the inside of some of Leadville’s fabulous late 1800s houses, Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, is your chance. That afternoon, the Leadville Holiday Victorian Homes Tour opens downtown homes in its National Historic Landmark District to the public. Inside are bowls of punch, hors d’oeuvres, and holiday decorations, plus plenty of laughter and holiday cheer. Complimentary shuttles will ferry you from home to home. If you like, wear Victorian attire and join in the fun!
Come the night before and bring the kiddos for a sparkling Parade of Lights. The parade floats down Harrison Avenue just after sunset on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, starting at 6 p.m. Afterwards, kids can tell Santa and Mrs. Claus their wishes, and everyone can warm up with sweet treats, hot cocoa and holiday cookies at the Courthouse. Downtown store windows will be dressed to the nines, with the winner of this year’s decorating contest announced at the parade.
Downtown shops will be open during the weekend, so that you can enjoy peaceful holiday shopping far from the hubbub of the mall. Have fun browsing for unique gifts, including local and regional arts, at independently owned shops, in a quiet and historic setting. An overnight stay at a Victorian bed and breakfast or one of the area’s many hotels, motels, or vacation rentals and a jaunt on nearby trails round out a relaxing holiday weekend.
