The Salida Council for the Arts (SCFTA) invites the public to attend the June Creative Mixer at the Salida SteamPlant Paquette Gallery on Thursday, June 14 from 5:30-7:00 pm featuring the Rocky Mountain Society of Botanical Artists and Guitarist Bob Campbell.
Held every second Thursday, the Creative Mixer is a free monthly public gathering of those interested in knowing more about the local arts scene in a casual social setting. Held in the Paquette Gallery of the SteamPlant, anyone with information to share about upcoming creative and art- related events is encouraged to give a brief announcement. Attendees are welcomed to introduce themselves and may find new friends and collaborators at the “Mixer.” Free hors’ de oeuvres, a cash bar, beautiful artwork, great conversation, and music are always in abundance.
Canniabis: A Visual Perspective is the exhibit about the Cannabis Genus of Flowering Plants. The Rocky Mountain Society of Botanical Artists has created an exhibit of botanical paintings of strains of the Cannabis species currently under legal cultivation in Colorado as agro pharmaceuticals or nutraceuticals, or fiber products. Each plant is beautifully and accurately portrayed in any of several archival media. All artworks are original for this collaboration and have not been previously exhibited.
Any confluence of art and science must blend together science and art in equal measure. Botanical art realizes this concept, conveying both beauty and information in elegance and style. Our artists carry this encounter to new heights of recorded observation and visual commentary, producing useful and timely portraits of various strains of species Cannabis sativa and C. indica. This genus of plants has historical and contemporary use in medicine, the fiber and paper industries, and recreation. Our educational goal is to depict various subspecies of these plants in their actuality rather than mythology, that the public may know and respect their ancient and ongoing utility.
