Service eases construction woes
The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin work on the intersection of First and F streets Wednesday, Sept. 6, resulting in street closures and detours in the heart of downtown Salida. Through traffic will have to detour around the intersection Wednesday and Thursday while crews dismantle the existing traffic lights.
While the old light signal is being removed, the public can expect a detour from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastbound traffic will use Second Street and westbound traffic will use Sackett Avenue. The area will remain open to pedestrians.
A full closure of the intersection will begin Monday, Sept. 11 and will continue until the end of October as contractors reconfigure the intersection.
The city of Salida and Chaffee Shuttle are collaborating to provide a free weekend shuttle service (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) during the intersection closure to facilitate access to downtown businesses and events. The map below provides information about shuttle stops and routes as well as pick-up and drop-off times.
