Equinox aligns with Salida SteamPlant music series

Music under the evening sky wraps up the week on Sunday, Aug. 20, with a celestial set by Buena Vista jazz group Equinox.

The quartet features Bob Rheam on trumpet, John Lusk on guitar, “Fat” Bob Songster on bass and Brian Pence on drums.

A blend of guitar and trumpet pay tribute to the most influential tenor saxophonist in the history of the genre. The name Equinox is a reference to John Coltrane’s 1964 album Coltrane’s Sound, which features a track titled “Equinox.”

The quartet will perform alongside the Arkansas River at the weekly concert series Jazz on the Plaza from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Salida SteamPlant, 220 W. Sackett Ave.

Jazz on the Plaza concerts are free and open to the public. A cash bar will be available and made possible by the Friends of the SteamPlant.
