It’s back to school time, and that means the second annual Back To School Block Party sponsored by KHEN radio is here. The fun-filled family event takes place at the end of the first school week on Thursday, Aug. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the KHEN building on Third Street in Salida.

“We want to build a strong sense of community, that’s why we do this. The event is staffed by almost all volunteers. It’s shaping up to be even bigger this year,” says Leslie Matthews, event organizer and KHEN chairman.

The block party is free and features many fun activities, such as a street tent with dancing to the latest radio hits, a bounce house, face painting, party specials and prize drawings. Some of Salida’s school teachers will be on the seat as dunkees in the dunk tank. Fun Street Family Arcade will hold a raffle for use of their virtual reality machines. Demonstrations of the circus arts by Salida Circus will be sure to entertain.

“This will be a great way to celebrate the start of the new school year,” Matthews says. “At KHEN we have a mission to connect with the community, not just play music.”
