Join GARNA for a trip to see the Orient Mine bats. We will drive to and then hike to the opening of the Orient Mine Cave via the Black Canyon trail head. The Orient Mine Cave is located on the Orient Land Trust (OLT) and Valley View Hot Springs property, approximately 11 miles southeast of Villa Grove. Thanks to that decision, Salida now has one of the biggest and best-preserved downtown historic districts in Colorado. This year’s Friends of Fourmile Hike will take place on Saturday, October 21. The hike will begin at the dead end of Forest Road 188A in south Fourmile with a long loop north and west, passing a old cabin, a beautiful gentle valley, spectacular rocks, narrow defiles and eventual return to the same starting point or a shuttle may be set for a shorter distance. To minimize the environmental impact of visitors, attendance is strictly limited to 10 per tour. This site is not handicap accessible and will involve walking over uneven ground on primitive pathways.
